    It's a shame that American orchestras and conductors have mostly been leery of doing video recordings, while European orchestras have given us wonderful videos. I found this set and ordered it for one recording: Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra's recording of Rachmaninov's Symphony No. 2. When it arrived, the Ormandy/Rachmaninov DVD would not play on my Samsung Blu Ray player, although all the other DVDs would. But when I played it on an old DVD player, it played just fine. Apart from that disappointment, this set is a keeper, even though I already had the other three Ormandy/Philadelphia DVDs in the set. Solti's recordings of Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 and Schubert's Symphonies No. 6 and 8 are a treat. Falla's El sombrero de tres picos played by Barenboim/Chicago is first-rate; Bernstein's Tanglewood/Boston SO performances of Brahms's Symphonies 2 and 4 show Bernstein in fine form, although the sound in 4 could be better; and the concert that Maazel and the NY Philharmonic did in Pyongyang has cherishable performances of the overture to Candide and Gershwin's An American in Paris. There's a lot more here, with something for almost any taste. At the price, it's a most worthwhile investment, promising hours of listening pleasure.
